The Rouen Ethnolinguistics Project (REP) was founded by James W. Underhill in the framework of the the ERIAC RESEARCH GROUP at the University of Rouen, in Northern France. REP aims to further investigations into the philosophy of language and the exploration of worldviews. This project takes us beyond terminology and concepts and into the way we think and feel within a language system. Rather than seeing languages as formal structures or as prison houses that confine and constrict thought, REP explores the way individuals help reanimate and remold the language system by appropriating it and transforming it when they write and speak together. REP works closely with academics and researchers in France, Germany, Poland, Scotland, Estonia, and the Czech Republic, as well as with the sister universities of Normandy University in Caen and Le Havre.
